Dear friends of Providence,
As you know, my number one priority in this economy is job growth. As part of that effort, I have been moving swiftly to position Providence as a leader in the green economy.
Just yesterday, we launched our latest green job training effort in partnership with the Providence Housing Authority and Groundworks Providence. We have also seen companies like United Natural Foods, Alteris Renewables, and Ecolect open up in Providence in recent months.
But postioning for leadership in the green economy also means creating a culture of sustainability in the city. Today, I launched a program to help achieve that, and also to achieve one of the 30 goals in our Operation Opportunity economic action plan.
We're going to double the city's recycling rate in one year. "Green Up" asks all residents to place recycling bins out with their Big Green Cans on trash day. If there are no bins, the barrels won't be emptied.
I hope you'll take a few minutes to check out the announcement by clicking here.
Thanks again for all you do to make our city great.
Sincerely,
Mayor Cicilline
